Salam, Hello, Salut, Azul my friends,
Today I received my PMP certification after several months of hard work, commitment, and dedication. As the number of candidates in Algeria is few, and the feedback is few. I want to share my personal experience and I really encourage everyone to do in order to grow the DZ PMP community.
How to prepare before the exam ( 2 weeks and 3 documents approach) :
if you have 2 weeks remaining before the exam, I would assume that you have an in-depth idea about the 5 phases (initiating, planning, executing, monitor and control, closing ) and the 9 knowledge areas (Integration, Scope, Schedule, Cost, Quality, Ressources, communication, procurement, risk, stakeholders and the 49 processes. if it's not the case you should ask yourself the question if you are ready or not ;)
So, during my preparation I focused only on 3 documents :
- RITA : the best book to start having the overall picture
- 1000 PMP questions about PMP: I used it to practice, and understand my weaknesses and strengths. I practiced by 100 questions and after I tried to recap and improve my weaknesses
- All processes with ITTO: a very relevant document that I used to understand the flow of information the relationship between the processes and the ITTOs. I learned by heart :) and tried to position all the questions inside the process
I believe it is enough to successfully pass the exam
How to manage your time during the exam:
In total the exam time will be 280 minutes (bezzzzaaf) :
- 15 minutes for admin stuff: system configuration, check ID and upload, exam location check,
- 15 minutes for back end verification: you will be waiting for someone (proctor) to get in touch with you and confirm that you can start the exam
- 240 minutes for the exam with additional 10 minutes break after the 89 question
My technic before the exam was: practicing by a slot of 100 questions and I measure the time in the end with a target of 1 minute, 1 question.
How to prepare for logistics :
Being in Algeria or a similar country where network issues and electricity cuts are frequent can be challenging and may cause a lot of distraction. this is why be very ready.
What to avoid :
- Avoid your work computer if you have any restrictions or firewall, or you do not have admin rights. ask your IT department now if you do not know.
- Ooredoo Modem 4G did not work for me during the exam, even if in the test it was working.
- Personal computers with low performance can be distracting during the exam. the loading time of questions was very low,
What are the alternatives :
- Internet: you need to find an ADSL internet with at least 4Mo. so where to find it?
- Coworking spaces in Algiers can be alternatives, the cost is about 1000DZD per day, but go and check before the exam day. some places :
- Syllabs : Algiers center
- bab 8 : Audin
- The adress : sidi yahia
- Hotels: you can also go to one of the hotels like ibis, spend the night and take the exam
- work office: be sure not be intercepted there and make sure you do not have any restrictions on the internet also :)
That was it from my side, i wish you all the best and do not hesitate to share your questions, feedback, experience in Algeria
Cheers
